#HumanCostofSugar: What Sugarcane Production Means for Farmer

Uttar Pradesh-- India's most populated state-- is the largest producer of Sugar. According to ISMA data, UP produced 120.05 lakh tonnes of sugar in the FY 2017-18, contributing approximately 38% of India's total sugar produce.

The produce, however, comes at a great human cost. The Oxfam India’s study Human Cost of Sugar does a ‘farm to mill’ assessment of sugar supply chain in Uttar Pradesh in an attempt to understand the complex issue.
